Edinburgh and the Royal Commonwealth Pool
Travelling to Edinburgh
Edinburgh only has one airport, at Ingliston, located to the west of the city. It is Scotland's busiest airport, handling 12.3 million passengers in 2016. Thirty-seven airlines offering 222 routes operated out of the airport in 2016. Details can be found at http://www.edinburghairport.com/flights/route-map.
The city also lies on the east coast rail line. The two principle stations are Edinburgh Waverley, in central Edinburgh (closest to the pool) and Haymarket (in the west end).
Travel within Edinburgh
Trams and public buses operate from the airport to the city centre, and buses run throughout the city. However, the city centre is quite compact - the Royal Commonwealth Pool is a 15 - 20 minute walk from the Royal Mile (High Street) and Princes Street. With Arthur's Seat and the Salisbury Crags providing a backdrop to the pool, it provides the perfect landmark for those wishing to enjoy the walk.
Wherever possible, SASA East District will collect teams arriving at the airport and either Haymarket or Waverley railway stations and transfer them to their accommodation. We have a small fleet of people carriers and minibuses available from the Tuesday before the competition up to Monday and so can help also with return journeys.
To book this, please send a request to : firstname.lastname@example.org. We will need to know date and arrival time, flight number or train starting point and the numbers who require transfer and where to. There will be a minimum charge of £20 per collection, each way. Arrangements and exact costs will be confirmed by email before departure.
